According to the latest
statistics from Strategy Analytics , 340 million smartphones
entered stores in the first quarter of 2021, 24% more than a year ago. According
to analysts, the main growth behind the massive growth is the hunger for 5G
leading to the upgrade of older phones.
Interest grew mainly in China,
where quarterly deliveries amounted to 94 million units (35% growth). At
the same time, production has not yet been affected by a shortage of chips like
other electronics industries.
Samsung
remains on the throne with an overview, whose deliveries rose by almost a third
year-on-year. The newly introduced S21 series and the advantageous
A-series have received a Korean manufacturer of 77 million units.
Apple
sold 57 million iPhones, close to Xiaomi with 49 million. However, the
situation is not entirely comparable, because the American company usually
calls the phones once a year in the last quarter, the Chinese one perhaps every
month. The peaks of sales are mainly Christmas or other holidays, not the
premieres of news.
Huawei
has dropped out of the Strategy Analytics rankings, with Oppo and Vivo closing,
both from the BBK Electronics concern, which also includes Realme, OnePlus and
Iqoo.
